For unaccompanied cello, this popular work by french composer Henri Vieuxtemps was originally for violin and piano. Written while the composer was on a trip to New Orleans in 1843, it bears the subtitle "Variations Burlesque." A dramatic introduction leads into a set of clever virtuoso variations on Yankee Doodle.
